Police are set to slap scalpers with hefty fines if they are caught trying to resell tickets to finals games this September.
The anti-gouging crackdown is part of a renewed push from the Victorian Government to stamp out the practice of ticket scalping in the state.
Previously only the AFL Grand Final, held every year at the MCG in , has been subject to the price gouging law but the state government has now added all finals games to that list.

It’s expected the Victorian Government will confirm the new safeguards as early as Friday, reported.
Victoria Police will fine any ticket scalpers they find anywhere from $806 to the staggering amount of $483,500, depending on the offence and its severity.
Next year’s ANZAC Day match, traditionally played between Essendon and Collingwood, will also be protected under the new safeguards.

It’s also expected that the next Australian Open will also be protected by the same anti-gouging safeguards.
AFL fixture boss Travis Auld said fans were the ones who will benefit most by protecting the finals and next year’s Anzac Day clash.
‘We’re supportive of the Victorian government’s decision to declare the 2018 AFL finals series and the 2019 Anzac Day match under the Major Events Act, so footy fans have affordable access to these matches,’ he said.

Acting Minister for Tourism and Major Events Philip Dalidakis said the changes were long overdue, with fans ‘fed up’ with ticket scalpers preventing some fans from being able to attend certain events.
‘By declaring the 2018 AFL finals series and the 2019 Anzac Day match, we’re sending a clear message to ticket scalpers that this unscrupulous behaviour will not be tolerated,’ he said.
Ticketmaster Resale, a website specialising in secondary ticket sales, advertised rickets for the 2017 AFL finals at prices as high as $700.
